Adult Individual Therapy
Finding Your Way Through Life's Transitions
Life can change in ways that leave you feeling disconnected, overwhelmed, or uncertain about what comes next. Whether you're navigating young adulthood, burnout, relationships, career changes, identity questions, or a season of personal growth, therapy can provide a space to slow down, understand yourself more deeply, and create meaningful change.
At Author Your Story Counseling, I provide individual therapy for adults and young adults who want to better understand themselves, break unhelpful patterns, and build a life that feels aligned with who they are.
Therapy is available in English and Spanish.
When Adult Therapy May Be Helpful
You may be considering therapy if you find yourself:
Feeling overwhelmed by expectations or responsibilities
Experiencing burnout from work, school, or caregiving
Struggling with anxiety, overthinking, or perfectionism
Questioning your identity or direction in life
Feeling stuck in patterns you understand but can't seem to change
Having difficulty setting boundaries
Experiencing major life transitions
Wanting deeper self-understanding and personal growth
Many people seek therapy not because something is "wrong," but because they want support navigating change and creating a more intentional life.
My Approach to Adult Individual Therapy
Understanding the Different Parts of Yourself
Using an Internal Family Systems (IFS)-informed approach, therapy can help you explore the different parts of yourself that influence your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors.
Sometimes one part of you wants change while another part feels afraid. One part may strive for achievement while another feels exhausted or unseen.
Rather than fighting these internal experiences, we work toward understanding them with curiosity and compassion.
My approach integrates IFS (Internal Family Systems)-informed therapy, CBT (Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy) skills, DBT (Dialectical-Behavior Therapy)skills, Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), and existential therapy to support adults navigating anxiety, burnout, identity shifts, and life transitions.
Building Practical Tools for Change
Alongside IFS-informed work, I incorporate evidence-based therapies tailored to your unique needs, experiences, and goals. Therapy is not one-size-fits-all, we work together to understand your patterns, process emotions, and develop tools that support lasting change.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
CBT helps identify connections between thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Together, we explore unhelpful thought patterns that may contribute to anxiety, self-doubt, stress, or feeling stuck, while developing healthier ways of responding.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
DBT provides practical skills to support emotional regulation, distress tolerance, mindfulness, communication, and healthier coping strategies. These tools can be especially helpful when emotions feel intense or difficult to manage.
Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT)
Emotion-Focused Therapy focuses on understanding and working with emotions as meaningful sources of information. Through an EFT-informed lens, we explore deeper emotional experiences, unmet needs, and relationship patterns to help you process difficult feelings and develop a more compassionate relationship with yourself and others.
Existential Therapy
Existential therapy explores questions around meaning, purpose, identity, values, and the kind of life you want to create. This approach can be especially helpful during periods of transition, uncertainty, or self-discovery.
Together, we create a personalized therapeutic approach that honors your story, supports emotional healing, and helps you build the skills and self-understanding needed to move forward.
